Eksemplariske noveller

- En skønlitterær klassiker.

I 1613 udgav Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra Eksemplariske noveller. Den legendariske Charlotta Dorothea Biehl oversatte novellerne i slutningen af 1700-tallet, men de findes ikke i nogen moderne udgave. Med denne nyoversættelse, der er støttet af Litteraturrådet, bliver Cervantes´ noveller tilgængelige på dansk for første gang i vor tid.

Eksemplariske noveller er et overflødighedshorn af fortællinger om lidenskabelig kærlighed, forførelse, ja, sågar voldtægt, bortførelser og tvangsægteskaber. Det ender som regel godt. Ind imellem fletter der sig historier om knægte af god familie, der løber hjemmefra for at leve det frie liv blandt sigøjnere, fiskere eller endda som tyve og småkriminelle. De brogede og drabelige beretninger af Cervantes, forfatteren til Don Quixote, bliver hist og her tilsat en snert af galskab, vildtvoksende fantasi og storsindet gavmildhed ligesom i Cervantes´ berømte roman Den sindrige ridder don Quixote de la Mancha.

Med Eksemplariske noveller tager Husets Forlag tråden op fra 2006, hvor vi udsendte Den sindrige ridder Don Quixote de la Mancha, bind 1½.

I Danmark er der tradition for at udgive Den sindrige ridder don Quixote de la Mancha i to bind, men værket består af tre bind. Der kiler sig nemlig et bind 1½ ind mellem Cervantes´ bind I og II.

Under pseudonymet Avellaneda udgav en anden forfatter i 1614 en fortsættelse på bind I og udfordrede således Cervantes til en duel på ord. Cervantes tog udfordringen op og udgav året efter sit bind II. Læs mere om den drabelige duel på

Cervantes´ navn hænger for de fleste mennesker sammen med don Quixote. Den drabelige og tænksomme roman Don Quixote er blevet et af de mest læste værker i verdenslitteraturen, og hovedpersonen med samme navn bliver ofte brugt som symbol på den klassiske konflikt mellem virkelighed og ideal.

Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (1547-1616) er en af den spanske guldalders helt store forfattere. Cervantes blev født i en beskeden familie og deltog i den kristne armada mod tyrkerne. Han blev såret i slaget ved Lepanto og var krigsfange hos maurerne i Algier. Her regnede man selvfølgelig med, at man kunne få en stor løsesum. Han blev løskøbt af kristne munke. Senere i livet rejste han rundt i Spanien som skatteopkræver og proviantør for den spanske armada og har sikkert selv ført et lige så broget og omskifteligt liv som mange af hovedpersonerne i de Eksemplariske noveller.

Cervantes skrev banebrydende romaner, noveller, skuespil og digte. Således regnes Den sindrige ridder don Quixote de la Mancha for den første roman, mens Eksemplariske noveller udmærker sig som de første moderne noveller i verden.

Sex and Character

Otto Weininger's controversial book Sex and Character, first published in Vienna in 1903, is a prime example of the conflicting discourses central to its time: antisemitism, scientific racism and biologism, misogyny, the cult and crisis of masculinity, psychological introspection versus empiricism, German idealism, the women's movement and the idea of human emancipation, the quest for sexual liberation, and the debates about homosexuality. Robert Crumb's Sex Obsessions

Sex and the City

Prostitution has always played a crucial symbolic role in the definition of moral and sexual standards and, as such, the figure of the prostitute has been paradigmatic in the history of the sex and the city. Focusing on the geographies of female prostitution in Western societies, this book explores the nature of sites of sex work and the ways they shape the lives of prostitutes (and their clients). In so doing, the book aims not simply to present a static "mapping" of sex work, but seeks to highlight how these public and private ssites are struggled over, with prostitutes often resisting the strategies of social and legal control designed to regulate their working practices. The book consequently engages with a number of contemporary debates in social, cultural and gender geography surrounding the importance of public and private spaces in producing (and reproducing) gender, sex and bodily identities.
